Does anyone know what happened to Roger Pope?
He was the drummer for Elton's West Coast tour in 1975 when he played at
the Troubadour and Dodger Stadium.
Since there are so many really knowledgeable Elton fans on this
newsgroup, I am sure someone must know something about Roger.
Thanks.
in Harmony
P.S. How come there are so few English people on this newsgroup, and no
one has replied to requests for full description of Elton's concert at
the weekend, in Leeds, Yorkshire?
Guess most of them can't afford the Internet! (It is so expensive over
here! - my bill is about $200 a month!)
Or perhaps they are too afraid to post on this newsgroup for fear of
being verbally attacked by the Big Long-term Fans who seem too critical
of others, especially newcomers! (God, I help them to brave!)
Just thought. British fans don't idolise people so much, so may not
even remember what songs he sung!
Roger Pope sadly passed away today (18th Sept 2013) after a short illness :-(

Sad to hear that. Lovely guy, bumped into him a couple of times in the Soul Cellar (Southampton). Always liked my Animal (Muppets) T-Shirt and was proud that he was one of the inspirations for the character, along with "Bongo and Moonie" as he put it.

Great character and will be missed.

not only was he a great drummer he was a charismatic character who always had a funny story I first met him in 1992 when he started drinking in my fathers pub The Spring in Southampton it took a while until we found out how famous he had been, I bet not many knew Keith Moon [RIP] from the Rolling Stones was his best man at his first wedding, Paul McCartney asked him to drum when he was forming wings as did Genesis, he also played with Kiki Dee, Rod Steward Hall and Oats, and China to name a few but money wasn't why his motivation it was always about the music but he was most proud of playing in a band called Hookfoot he will be sadly missed be all who had the pleasure to have met him
