This is quickly becoming my favorite track. I wonder why it wasn't included
no the main album. It has great lyrics, a wonderful melody, nice production,
and I think it's the best instance of Elton and Leon singing together.

I agree. This song has classic all over it. Also love Jimmy rogers
Dream and monkey Suit.
A very fine album.

I love this song and am curious why it was dropped from the original
album. Oh well, I'm glad it was included as a bonus track and now
have the opportunity to listen to it and enjoy it.

Mandalay Again is the best song of the whole sessions.
I just love it! So harmonic, so romantic, just moody perfection!

Consider this, I do love the track btw, it is perhaps the most
contemporary sounding track, most Elton sounding track, ala Sacrifice,
All that I'm allowed, Blue Avenue, Nikita, Daniel, Little Jeannie,
Paradise, and so on. Therefore, it doesn't fit the album format.

On a side note, I have actually bought several copies of the album to
give as gifts. Five, lolo, actually.

I see your point. Hadn't thought of that. But it also seems one of the most
appropriate to the album if you interpret the lyrics as pertaining to EJ and
LR.

I don't see the lyrics being Elton and Leon....IMHO

I didn't at first, but it's about two people who met each other a long time
ago without really knowing each other and at some point later in life one of
them decided to look up the other via a friend. And they both had their ups
and downs in the interim (drugs, the ferris wheel) and now maybe they can
get together and raise a little Cain. I think Bernie was probably riffing
off their situation.

There are plenty of great songs that did not make it on a main album.
Red, Planes, Perfect Love, and I Know Why I'm In Love come to mind.

Bad side of the moon, Take me down to the ocean, Screw You, Snow
Queen, Suit of Wolves to name a few more, but I think he was saying
the album didn't really match the over "feel"..less acoustic
sounding...less organic I guess is the catch phrase.
