I purchased the Gnomeo & Juliet soundtrack CD on release day (2/8/11)
at Best Buy. The CD was labeled with a price of $13.99 but it rang up
at $11.99 (the Internet price).

The CD includes two new Elton John songs. “Hello Hello (Album
Version)” is similar to the Beatles “Hello Goodbye” song. In fact,
when “Hello Hello” is sung, it sounds very similar to the Beatles
song. I don’t know what “Album Version” means. Perhaps there are
different versions elsewhere?

The other new Elton John song is titled “Love Builds A Garden”, though
the lyrics under the title, and his singing, refer to “love built a
garden”. This is a nice ballad with Elton’s magical piano, voice, and
melody.

The CD includes seven of Elton’s earlier hits. They are all the same
as the original recordings except “Crocodile Rock” which includes
Nelly Furtado singing the song with Elton doing a little singing at
the end. The words are slightly different too, no “Suzie wore her
dresses tight”.

It is nice to hear pieces of Elton’s songs, in new ways, on all four
instrumentals on the CD. “I’m Still Standing” is the only song on an
instrumental but not a song by itself on the CD. It is cute that the
instrumental that includes some of “Bennie and the Jets” is called
“Bennie and the Bunnies”.

The only song not written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin is “The Tiki
Tiki Tiki Room”, written by Richard Sherman and Robert Sherman. I
wonder if that is the same “Bobby Sherman” musician popular in the
70’s? The original “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” was credited to
writers Anne Orson and Carte Blanche. This CD credits Elton and Bernie
writing the song. So, if you didn’t know already, that reveals Anne &
Carte as really Elton & Bernie!

An “Elton John Band” is listed as Davey Johnstone, Nigel Olsson, Bob
Birch, Ray Cooper, and in Memory of Guy Babylon. So perhaps that is
the band that performed the two new Elton John songs. I see no credit
for background singers for the two new songs.

When I stick the CD in the CD drive of my computer, it directs me to
bonus material. It basically just points to a http://gnomeojulietbonuscontent.com/
web address which includes a video with a picture gallery and a video
of a Crocodile Rock music video.

I like the CD and hope to see the movie sometime just for the music
alone.

Not quite :-) Collectively known as the Sherman Brothers, these guys
have written music
for just about every Disney movie you've ever sung along to!

From Wikipedia:

"The Sherman Brothers wrote more motion-picture musical song scores
than any other songwriting
team in film history, working for Walt Disney during the last six
years of his life. Film scores of the
Sherman Brothers include Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The
Jungle Book, and The Aristocats."

Now in their 80s, their most recent work was "The Tigger Movie" and
they're currently working
on "Inkas the Ramferinkas" to be released in 2013. Hope they change
the name, doesn't really
roll off the tongue!

As for Bobby Sherman (swoon!), here's what he's been up to, from his
own site:

A trained EMT since 1988, Bobby now works for the L.A. Police
Department as a specialist officer,
assigned to the training department, where he is responsible for
teaching thousands of cadets first
aid and CPR. Bobby has said that medical rescue work and teaching is
the best life experience and
training that he could ever have. In 1999, Bobby become a San
Bernardino County Sheriff, starting
the same service he provided for the LAPD.

Cool, huh? Thought that last bit might be interesting for fellow fans.

Cheers,

TD (aka Rhonda)

Yes, since the "movie version" is sung in duet with Lady Gaga, and also
has a slightly different arrangement.
